You can’t miss something if you didn’t even notice it in the first place. Because of this, I’m drawn to people who have an amateur enthusiasm for nature, and in the past couple of years I've started birding and meeting people in the birding community. Birders are a diverse and fascinating group of people - as an activity and as a community. I’m curious about how they got into birding, their memories and perception. Many people got into birding during the pandemic because it was both an accessible and safe activity to do. I’ve also been learning about birds’ perception and how they experience the world, and we’ve only recently begun to understand how they see and communicate with each other.
