kitchen aid

| | Comments (0)

i'm in love. I finally got a chance to use the kitchen aid mixer that we received as a wedding gift. Originally I didn't even really want one - they're so huge and heavy, and I was afraid that it would take up way too much space in our cabinets. Plus we already had a mixer. But I said, OK, why not, add it to the registry. Our friends Andrew and Anindita (the awesome friends that they are) actually bought it for us (they have one too!). I haven't had much time to cook since we moved, so it was just gathering dust in the cabinet and I had kind of forgotten about it.

Of course, with Christmas being right around the corner, I wanted to make some holiday cookies. So I broke out the kitchen aid. And it was AMAZING. It's like I've been driving a Hyundai all my life, thinking that it was a pretty good car, and then I test drive a BMW. Geez. It's quiet and fast. It mixed the dough really evenly, and I barely put it above the second lowest setting. Everything about it is smooth - the lever to raise and lower the bowl, the switch that turns it on, the mixing action itself.

Everyone should have a kitchen aid.

(small) tour of my studio space

the light in the studio is so beautiful today, i just had to put a photo up. We were so lucky to find an apartment with an extra room, and it gets gorgeous light during the day. and it even has a door out to the patio, so i'm looking forward to spring days with the door wide open for some fresh air. And the tile floor is so easy to clean up. I couldn't have asked for a nicer space!

I've been working on a study of a Pontormo painting for the past week or so. and it finally struck me that the paint samples that I had chosen for painting the rest of the house came directly from that painting. And I had picked those paint chips up more than 2 months ago. Can you say superdork?

Now I've just got to get rid of the boxes of old work...

there was much drinking. I learned that I can drink more high quality irish whiskey than I thought I could. We also got drunk with my uncle, which was AWESOME. I also freaked out my high school band teacher who was like, um, the Lee sisters are drinking alcohol?? Sannie was like 10 the last time he saw us.

All in all it was a good time. The food was good, the music was good (thanks to sannie burning some CDs), the company was good, and I got to wear a kickass dress. (do you sense a theme here?). Wayne and I made my grandmothers very happy. And I definitely have to thank my mom, who put an enormous amount of effort into throwing the whole shindig.

geez, has it really been two months?

The ceremony in Boston was beautiful, everything went without a hitch and we all had a great time. Saying our vows (which Wayne and I worked hard on!), voicing our commitment in front of our community, was so amazing, and feeling their support was phenomenal. Thank you, everyone who came and shared the day with us - and for those who couldn't make it, we will come and visit you.

People keep asking us, "is it different now that you're married?" Different? In the day to day, it doesn't seem like it. I mean, we've been living together for five years now. (Actually it's probably a little less stressful now that the wedding is OVER.) We've always talked about our future dreams, hopes and plans - and from early on in our relationship we started including each other in those anyway. I guess the wedding was more a marker, a formalization of that. And I suppose it opens up the possibilities of (gasp) babies in the (far distant) future. I do however get to wear a kickass ring now, so there.

and sannie said that I should go around showing off the ring at my high school reunion saying, "I'm married, bitches!". Uh, that didn't quite happen.

flu and its evil effects on food

| | Comments (0)

unfortunately i was struck down by the flu for the past few days. it's forced me to slow down (that's for sure!), mostly been sleeping, but also made me realize how DEPRESSING it is to not be able/want to eat.

I haven't wanted to eat anything... I haven't been hungry since tuesday evening. That's...almost 72 hours of not being hungry. For those who know me, I get hungry literally every 3 hours and I get cranky when I don't eat. It's strange to not want food, not eat food, and not feel hungry for a long period of time. It's just wrong. And it's frustrating as hell to want to eat, but then smell food, and then have to run away to the bathroom. It's quite horrible actually. I've been able to eat only clementines and oatmeal, then I graduated to chicken soup today.

Food is such an important part of my - our - lives. I think about it a lot. Maybe more than the normal person who isn't in the food industry should...? I'm always trying to figure out what I'm craving, what would be the perfect thing to eat at the moment, or to figure out what would be the perfect thing to share with friends and family. When I read about food, I really try to imagine what the person is describing. I'm there.

Yes, so damn you, flu, for taking away my desire to eat. Hopefully I will be well enough to make it to the family holiday dinner in Chinatown tomorrow night without any, well, "accidents".
