ipod love

| | Comments (0)

i love my ipod. Seriously. I think it's changed the way I listen to music. It's definitely made me more appreciative of what I have, and less judgemental. It's broken down my preconceptions about what I like and don't like, and introduced me to genres that I would never even think of listening to. All thanks to the shuffle feature.

Take for instance country music. If you had asked me five years ago whether or not i liked country music, I would have laughed in your face and said that I hated it. But now...I have to admit that I like it. (not including garth brooks and other such crappy mainstream country-pop that gets played on the radio. i'm not going that far.) Johnny Cash. Hank Williams Sr. Neko Case. Old 97s. Meat Purveyors. This is a lot of stuff that Wayne had that I didn't listen to because I thought that I didn't like country music. Now I listen to it all the time.

Other artists that I've "discovered" lately because of the shuffle feature. Aimee Mann. Modest Mouse. Digital Underground. A Tribe Called Quest. Blackalicious. Jimmy Cliff. Mia Doi Todd. And definitely defintely Tom Waits.

I've also discovered that I don't like Captain Beefheart.

Hot days

Hrm, this photo is rather deceiving but it was actually super hot and muggy (not cool and rainy) at Coney Island. It must've been the tinting and scratched windows on the F that did it. Cool filter!

The walk from Brighton Beach to Coney Island is definitely the thing to do on a weekday evening in the summer, when the humidity is just about unbearable. You can stroll along the beach and enjoy the nice sea breeze coming off of the water, and admire the sunset. You can people watch (very interesting people watching - old russian couples wrinkled from the sun, groups of hispanic teenagers flirting with each other, large indian families with grandparents in tow, etc.) as everyone is packing up to go home for the evening. Best of all, you can treat yourself to an ice cream cone at the end of the walk.
