shout it from the rooftops

So it's official - Wayne and I are engaged. Yup, we're getting married! (this coming from a person who, from the age of 12, swore that she would never get married and never have children). I had been wondering off and on if Wayne was going to do it. We've been together for almost four years now, and it's been quite an adventure. It'll be interesting to see what we'll be doing next!

And no, we haven't set a date yet. Most likely 2006, in the fall...where it's going to be, etc. is still anybody's guess. At least I've cut off one level of my grandmother's nagging ("when are you getting married?"). ;-)

And yes, it's a silly photo - I thought Wayne looked dashing with the pole and his stance on the deck of the boat.

MOMA action

I (finally) went to check out the new incarnation of the MOMA on Friday. Because it was FREE Friday. and now I understand why it's FREE.

Basically they try to jam in as many people as possible into the museum so that you'll get so ticked off by having every third person jab you in the ribs while you're trying to jockey for a view of that Picasso print so that you will think $20 is actually a decent price to pay to get in at any other time than when it's FREE.

and yes i am actually now considering getting a membership.

sigh.

Regardless of the jabbing, the museum space was beautiful and worth the wait. I definitely want to spend more time in the galleries - I was already getting visual overload after two hours. I've been thinking a lot about the piece by Lorna Simpson, in the contemporary gallery - the ones with the wigs printed on felt. So simple and eloquent.

i'm ba-ack

ok, so i came back two weeks ago. i'm still trying to readjust to things. and yes i will post my photos from South Africa once i organize everything and figure out how the heck i'm going to post them all. plus order prints to show all of those people in my life who are not on the internet. yay grandparents! at least then they won't have to worry so much about what I was doing over there and that I didn't get trampled by an elephant.

in the meantime, enjoy this quicktime panorama of Bulungula - a remote village in the Transkei. Just a warning, though - it's 1.3 MB so for those of you on a dialup connection it may be slow...and if you don't have the quicktime plugin, you can download it here.
