January 2005 Archives

I am just on the other side of it. I am currently in South Africa(!), in Cape Town on a workshop. Much has been happening here, both physically and in my brain, so there will be much more to come once I get back. It's quite difficult to do a summary...but we have been meeting with artists, scientists, curators, people who were part of the anti-apartheid movement, and it has been the most amazing experience so far. There are so many connections to make and discover between all of these people, their ideas and what is going on in all of our own countries. I've been reflecting and trying to connect back to my own experiences, and to see the similarities in situations and to learn from them.

Thought into action. Next week we'll be heading in to the studio at the art university in Cape Town (Michaelis) and responding to what we have seen through our artwork. I'm really excited to be moving into that space, but we'll only have 10 days to do the work. So I am a bit nervous, but looking forward to seeing what will come out of it.
